Isuzu engine: finding the serial number and engine code

The serial number and engine code are the basis for finding spare parts or repair kits for an Isuzu engine. Without these details, clear identification is hardly possible. This guide shows where to find the numbers and what they mean.

Why the serial number and engine code matter so much

Isuzu builds many series that look similar from the outside but use different parts. Only the engine code and serial number allow the variant and the matching spare parts to be determined reliably. Including both in your enquiry saves follow-up questions.

Where can I find the serial number on an Isuzu engine?

The engine code and serial number are usually stamped on the engine block or shown on a type plate. Check these places:

Clean the area carefully, as stamped numbers are often hard to read under dust and oil. A photo of the number helps with identification.

What does the engine code mean?

The engine code describes the series and design. The first digit usually indicates the number of cylinders: the 3KC1 is a three-cylinder, the 4HK1 a four-cylinder and the 6BG1 a six-cylinder engine. Based on the code, we assign the engine to the correct series. An overview of the series is given in the guide Isuzu engines for construction machinery.

Found the serial number. What next?

Send us the engine code and serial number using the enquiry form, ideally with a photo of the number and the machine type. We will identify the right spare part or repair kit and send you a quote with price and delivery time.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the serial number and the engine code?
The engine code, for example 3KC1, identifies the series. The serial number identifies the individual engine. Both details help when searching for parts.
I cannot find a number. What can I do?
Send us photos of the engine from several angles, together with the machine type and the machine serial number. The engine can often be narrowed down this way.
Do I absolutely need the number for an enquiry?
It makes identification much easier but is not always essential. With the machine type, photos and a description of the part we also get there in many cases.

Which part are you looking for?

Machine and part are enough. A part number or a photo of the type plate makes it unambiguous.

Where do I find the part number?

On the old part (stamped or on a plate) or in the machine's parts list. Without a number, the serial number on the machine's type plate helps.
